In 2000, Dwayne took a small group of American college students to an event called Passion One Day outside Memphis, TN.  That amazing day brought over 50,000 young people together for no other reason than to exalt the name of Jesus Christ.  The event was filled with challenging messages and powerful worship.  I have never forgotten the impact that one day had on my life as well as the lives of the thousands that attended, including that small group of 5 students from Florida and Indiana that came with me.  Four of those five students are in now in full-time ministry.

Events such as this are rare in Russia.  Nevertheless, there is an opportunity to take a small group of Russian college-aged students to a similar event being held in Kiev, Ukraine on May 10th. I have been in touch with the event coordinators who have offered to scholarship the registration for these students, but the travel costs will be roughly $300 per person. I hope to take 5-10 young people to this special event.  However, the students do not have enough to cover the travel expenses.  I am convinced that this is an exceptional opportunity for the young leaders here in the church in Chelyabinsk and that connecting them to the purpose and heart of Passion will benefit not only the participants, but also the ministry and future growth of the church in Russia.  I am praying that there are some of you who read this that have been impacted by Passion ministries and understand the incredible opportunity of igniting young students for God’s Kingdom.  Will you consider sponsoring one of our university students that want to attend Passion Kiev 2010?   You can email me directly at dwaynegoldman@gmail.com to find out how you can best partner with one of these students.  If you would just like to send a gift please label it for Leadership Development Project #42.30480 and designate it for Passion Kiev 2010.

The church in Russia is anticipating the completion of this long-awaited dream given by God. They are enthusiastically preparing leadership, strengthening ministries, and sacrificing time and resources for the launch of the Ministry Center. Although the timing is not in human hands, the church is praying to begin ministry in the new building soon. Last year this seemed impossible, but now we are seeing that God handles the impossible!

This summer last provided an excellent opportunity for Pastor Andrei to visit many friends and supporters of the Chelyabinsk Church of God and this fall two of our Russian ladies shared their stories throughout the MidWest in October while attending the National Women’s Convention in Grand Rapids, MI. We are thankful for the renewed energy and the partnerships many have made to make this dream become reality. A brief history of the Russian church, the ministry needs, and the project is available on DVD. Titled “Seize the Moment, Share the Dream” it can be obtained from the Global Missions office and is available to view on YouTube. (Excerpt from Window Project Update)

A Different Kind of “Normal” (Article from Spring 2010 Newsletter)

Our family has been serving and living in Russia for the last three years and can say from experience that “normal” is a relative term.  We have learned and grown tremendously and watched an amazing God at work among an exceptional fellowship of believers in Chelyabinsk.  We have also witnessed God’s outpouring through many of those whose hearts are drawn to this corner of the world through the gifts that have been given toward the Window Project, bringing the Ministry Training Center near to completion.

Even with these incredible experiences, we have had to redefine “normal” for our family as we adapt to this cross-cultural setting.  Normal has been uprooting and traveling in and out of Russia for the last two years; never staying in one place longer than 3 months.  Through it all, our children have remained resilient and handled this new “normal” well.

It has never been difficult to serve in Russia, only to negotiate living here since the visa laws changed two years ago.  Our Lord has remained steadfast and faithful to our family and to His church through all of this.  Our discussions have led us to the decision that it is not possible to continue living in the Russian Federation with a family due to visa limitations.  When our family exits at the end of our current visa this May, we will be returning to the U.S. for a one-year Home Assignment.   Although this was not an easy decision, we are certain that God is directing us in this transition.  In our three years of serving in Chelyabinsk, we have been challenged but have also experienced many blessings.  Our ministry and relationship in Russia will take on a different form, but our commitment and partnership will remain a strong focus for our ministry and future assignment in this region.

We have come to the conclusion that “normal” is simply living out a life of service and love to the Creator, in order to honor and glorify Him. Please continue to pray for our family as we seek the Lord’s will and call to serve the Russian Church while remaining open to even greater ministry throughout the region of Europe and the Middle East as well.
